IPL 2014 Predictions for Play Offs

May 28: Qualifier 1, KXIP vs KKR, Kolkata, 4 PM

The match is rescheduled to 28th May because of torrential rain in Kolkata. As per weather reports, there is low chances of rain today. Therefore the fast bowlers won’t get the advantage of overcast conditions now which was expected yesterday.

KKR has won all its 3 matches this season at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata where it will meet KXIP in the 1st qualifier. While KXIP has performed consistently with 12 wins in 14 matches, Kolkata peaked at the right time after a disappointing start. The pitch favors bowlers in general and slow bowlers in particular. KKR having a better bowling attack stands to gain from the pitch. The outcome of the match will be heavily dependent on how Maxwell and Uthappa will perform today. Considering all factors, I am slightly inclined towards the KKR for this match.

Prediction: KKR wins

May 28: Eliminator, CSK vs MI, Mumbai, 8 PM

Mumbai might have barged into the top 4 with a spirited performance against the Rajasthan Royals, CSK is a much better team. In IPL 7, Dhoni led Chennai has 2 more wins than the Mumbai team which indicates that Chennai is clearly the better team. Most of the Chennai players are in form and have performed consistently while the same can not be said for Mumbai.

The match will be played at the Brabourne Stadium. With no recent match played at the ground, there are not enough indicators to understand the pitch behaviour. Considering the historical data, Brabourne should help the batsmen with some support to spinners. CSK scores over MI in these departments.

Batting second has its own advantages on this ground so MI may have some fighting chance if it bats second. Otherwise, it’s CSK all the way.

Prediction: CSK wins

May 30: Qualifier 2, CSK vs KXIP, Mumbai, 8 PM

CSK, after registering an emphatic victory over the Mumbai Indians in the eliminator, will fight against the Kings XI Punjab, the most successful team in the league phase, for the second berth in the final.

CSK’s batsman are in good form which is why they chased down 170+ score easily in the last match. On the other hand, over dependence on the Maxwell-Miller combination isn’t helping the Punjab cause.

Recent matches at the Wankhede indicate that around 160-170 is an average score here. As both the teams are dependent mostly on their batsmen, the effect of the batting friendly pitch will be minimal. Wankhede may also support the slow bowlers. Ashwin will be crucial to CSK’s success. Both the teams have played here one match each this season, while CSK won its match, KXIP lost vs Mumbai. So a large number of indicators point towards CSK as the possible winner today. But considering the form KXIP has shown throughout the tournament, i believe KXIP will come out on the top today.

Prediction: KXIP wins

June 01: Final, KKR vs KXIP, Bangalore, 8 PM

Last time these two teams met in the first qualifier in Kolkata and KKR beat Punjab decisively. Now, the two teams are bout to meet in the final at the Chinnaswami Stadium, Bangalore. The biggest difference between the two matches would be the pitch. While KKR pitch favors the bowlers, Bangalore pitch will be helpful for the batsmen. KKR is the bowling powerhouse (Hence a favorite in Kolkata) but lacks the consistent batsmen. Except Uthappa, none of the KKR batsmen have scored consistently which is an issue to worry for the Gambhir led team. However, the Punjab team who will be playing their first IPL final, stand to gain the most from the Bangalore pitch with its battery of high scoring batsmen like Sehwag, Miller and Maxwell, of course. So, I believe KXIP will lift their maiden IPL trophy tonight.

Prediction: KXIP wins

Cricket Tadka IPL 7 Predictions: Match 51 to 56

IPL 2014 Predictions for Match 51 to 56

May 23: Match No. 51, MI vs DD, Mumbai, 4 PM

Delhi is now at the bottom place of the IPL 7 points table with only 2 wins in 12 matches. While they would now be playing for pride, they may unsettle many teams’ play off prospects. Mumbai still has an outside chance of making it to the top 4 and they shouldn’t face resistance from Delhi in this match.

Prediction: MI wins

May 23: Match No. 52, KXIP vs RR, Mohali, 8 PM

Punjab lost their last match at PCA Stadium, Mohali to Mumbai thanks to a brilliant century by Lendl Simmons. With two back to back defeats, Team RR’s morale would be down. Dewspite 3 losses in last 4 matches, RR stands at no. 4 in the team standings. I am going with Punjab for this match strictly on the basis of performance.

Prediction: KXIP wins

May 24: Match No. 53, RCB vs CSK, Bangalore, 4 PM

As RCB is officially out of the race now, all they have now is pride to play for. Despite having so many big names in the team, it was sorry to see RCB failing to win matches. One of the biggest cause of worries for RCB is thaier failure at their home. In previous seasons, majority of their wins came at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. This season, RCB has won just two in their home ground. CSK, on the other hand, has performed as per expectations. CSK to win today, most likely.

Prediction: CSK wins

May 24: Match No. 44, KKR vs SRH, Kolkata, 8 PM

To be in the contention for the Top 4 place, SRH has to win this match and win big. Looking back at the SRH performance this season, this is unlikely to happen. KKR would like to stake claim for a place in the top 2 by winning their last match.

Prediction: KKR wins

May 25: Match No. 55, KXIP vs DD, Mohali, 4 PM

Apart from the fact that Punjab has been the best performer so far in the IPL 7, Delhi’s lack of resources and bad performance throughout the tournament makes it easier to predict the outcome of this match.

Prediction: KXIP wins

May 25: Match No. 56, MI vs RR, Mumbai, 8 PM

In order to make it to the top 4, Mumbai has to not only win this match but also win it big. Rajasthan sit pretty with 14 points and a good NRR, while Mumbai has 12 points with NRR -0.090. On the last occasion they met at Ahmedabad, MI had won easily by 25 runs. RR performance has dropped ever since. I will go for another MI win today, but my guess is that they won’t make it to the top 4.

Prediction: MI wins

IPL 2014 Predictions for Match 41 to 50

May 15: Match No. 41, RR vs DD, Ahmedabad, 8 PM

Delhi is virtually out of the top 4 race with only 2 victories in 10 matches. On the other hand, Rajasthan is currently placed at no. 3 on the points table with 6 wins. Unless some miracle happens, RR should win this match comfortably at home.

Prediction: RR wins

May 18: Match No. 42, CSK vs RCB, Ranchi, 4 PM

As IPL restarts after a break of 2 days, two heavyweights Chennai and Bangalore will meet each other at the JSCA Stadium, Ranchi. Home to the CSK team, Ranchi turf has helped the Chennai batsmen. Considering the lackluster performance by the RCB which is battling for survival in the league, CSK is the natural pick for this game.

Prediction: CSK wins

May 18: Match No. 43, SRH vs KKR, Hyderabad, 8 PM

As the fight for play off spots intensifies, KKR and SRH will be fighting each other in Hyderabad. Toss will play an important role here. While Kolkata has a good chance to win this match, team batting second will win.

Prediction: KKR (SRH if it bats second)

May 19: Match No. 44, RR vs MI, Ahmedabad, 4 PM

This is the first cricket match in the Modi-land after Narendra Modi won an emphatic victory in the Lok Sabha polls. Expect an emphatic win for Rajasthan Royals at Motera against the Mumbai Indians who have seven wins in their 10 games. Rajasthan batsmen had scored 200 plus at the same pitch in the last match.

Prediction: RR wins

May 19: Match No. 45, DD vs KXIP, Delhi, 8 PM

This is a no-brainer. Considering the performance of Delhi in IPL 7 so far and comparing it to the KXIP campaign till now, it is safe to assume that only miracle can cause a DD win today.

Prediction: KXIP wins

May 20: Match No. 46, SRH vs RCB, Hyderabad, 4 PM

On the Hyderabad pitch, you are at advantage if you are chasing. While both SRH and RCB have performed almost equally bad, Hyderabad looks slightly strong on the Hyderabad pitch. In such a close call, I will go with the team batting second.

Prediction: SRH (RCB if it bats second)

May 20: Match No. 47, KKR vs CSK, Kolkata, 8 PM

While the Gambhir led team started the tournament quietly, it has peaked in the India leg of the IPL. Now, CSK is almost assured of a play off berth, KKR is one of the biggest contender for the no. 4 spot. KKR would like to win in the first match at the iconic Eden Gardens. But defeating a strong opponent like CSK will not be easy. Talking about the pitch, the Kolkata pitch is a bit slow on which Sunil Narine is a great asset to have in the team. The recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches show that the IPL games here may produce a low scoring matches. I will go with KKR for this match.

Prediction: KKR wins

May 21: Match No. 48, KXIP vs MI, Mohali, 8 PM

Punjab, which is the first team to secure a play off erth in the IPL 6, will play for the first time at its real home ground. And the opponent is Mumbai which has now only an outside chance of making to the top 4. Odds are heavily stacked against the Mumbai Indians for this game

Prediction: KXIP wins

May 22: Match No. 49, KKR vs RCB, Kolkata, 4 PM

After beating the mighty CSK at the same ground, KKR looks comfortable to beat the RCB. After a disappointing start, KKR did well to make a come back and has now almost secured a play off spot for itself. Much of the credit for this goes to Robin Uthappa, who has been consistently scoring runs which is very difficult in T20 format.

Prediction: KKR wins

May 22: Match No. 50, CSK vs SRH, Ranchi, 8 PM

Hyderabad currently now has only a mathematical chance of making to the top 4. A match against the team Chennai clouds there play off prospects even more. Despite a loss to the KKR in Kolkata, CSK is expected to win easily in there adopted home Ranchi.

Prediction: CSK wins

Cricket Tadka IPL 7 Predictions: Match 31 to 40

Last week, IPL was back in India and so was the Cricket Tadka IPL Predictions and with a bang. Results of 7 out of the 10 matches played in IPL last week were exactly as per our predictions. In one match, the result was unexpected (Mumbai beating Punjab) considering the current performance. In another match, we completely misread the Cuttack pitch. The staggering 70% strike rate proves why Cricket Tadka is the best website when it comes to Cricket Prediction. Before this week’s predictions, here’s our report card for last week.

IPL 2014 Prediction for Match No. 31 to 40

May 9: Match No. 31, RCB vs KXIP, Bangalore, 8 PM

This is a very tough match to predict. The reason is simple. Kings XI Punjab has the best performance in IPL 7 and its successful batsmen like Maxwell, Miller and Bailey will love to bat on the batting friendly track of the Chinnaswamy. Similarly, the Royal Challengers Bangalore has many destructive batsmen in its rank who have traditionally flourished on the Bangalore’s flat track. If you analyze Gayle’s scoring pattern in the IPL, most of his big knocks have come in Bangalore. However, in the last match at this stadium, RCB’s top order failed while chasing 156 against SRH. It was AB de Villiers’ heroics that saved RCB’s face in the end. RCB seems to have small advantage because of the ease they feel at their home ground apart from the factors like KXIP’s comparatively weaker bowling attack and over dependence on a fixed set of batsmen.

Prediction: RCB wins

May 10: Match No. 32, DD vs SRH, Delhi, 4 PM

It is now almost certain (to me, at least) that Delhi is going to take the unenviable bottom spot of the points table of the IPL 7. Despite the home advantage, Delhi is most likely to lose against Hyderabad when you factor in SRH’s bowling attack on the Feroz Shah Kotla pitch.

Prediction: SRH wins

May 10: Match No. 33, MI vs CSK, Mumbai, 8 PM

Mumbai is on the rise as soon as they returned to the Indian conditions. The runs have started to flow from the bats of the Mumbai bastmen. The bowling department is wtill an area of concern for the team management. Wankhede condition has helped MI by covering many of the weak spots in their lineup. However, it is not easy to hide your weakness against strong teams like CSK. Beaten comprehensibly by KXIP in the last match, CSK will be eager to win big to restore their image as a champion team and biggest title contender. They couldn’t have wished for a better opponent than Mumbai.

Prediction: CSK wins

May 11: Match No. 34, KXIP vs KKR, Cuttack, 4 PM

I accepted the very beginning of the article that I misread the Cuttack pitch last week. I was expecting a traditional Barabati pitch helping the slow bowlers and producing a low scoring game. On a slow pitch, I would have picked KKR over KXIP, but after the last match, KXIP is the clear favorite against KKR.

Prediction: KXIP wins

May 11: Match No. 35, RCB vs RR, Bangalore, 8 PM

Despite the RCB loss at the home ground, I believe they are the team to beat at home. Even the last match proved that the team with better batsmen can win the match at the Chinnaswamy. So RCB is my pick for this match.

Prediction: RCB wins

May 12: Match No. 36, SRH vs MI, Hyderabad, 8 PM

If the recent form of the teams is factored in Hyderabad is the clear front runner. However, this match being the first one at this stadium in IPL 7, we are in dark how the pitch will play out. So I am going with SRH for this match just on the basis of the current form.

Prediction: SRH wins

May 13: Match No. 37, CSK vs RR, Ranchi, 4 PM

After the win vs RCB in the last match, it is difficult to take the Royals lightly. But will they be able to succeed in unsettling the CSK plans in Ranchi? That’s very unlikely if one considers CSK’s performance at the JSCA Stadium.

Prediction: CSK wins

May 13: Match No. 38, RCB vs DD, Bangalore, 8 PM

RCB has disappointed its fans big time in this season of the IPL. Despite having the best batting resources, inconsistency in batting and weak bowling has let it down. It lost to RR at home in the last match despite dominating the match most of the time. RCB needs to stamp their authority with a big win.

Prediction: RCB wins

May 14: Match No. 39, SRH vs KXIP, Hyderabad, 4 PM

Kings XI Punjab has displayed its weakness out in open in the last match vs KKR in Cuttack. Preity ZInta’s team is over dependent on the Maxwell-Miller-Bailey trio and level of its bowling attack is below average. Sehwag returning to form is a good sign for KXIP. SRH also lost its last match at home in a close encounter at the same ground. A seemingly bowling friendly track didn’t produce much runs. On such a track, I will go with the team with better bowling lineup i.e. SRH. Punjab may win if it bats second.

Prediction: SRH wins (KXIP if it bats second)

May 14: Match No. 40, KKR vs MI, Cuttack, 8 PM

Shifted from Kolkata to Cuttack in last moments, this match promises to be an interesting battle among equals. Both teams have won their last matches. KKR has the advantage of playing at the same ground 3 days ago. Cuttack pitch has been unpredictable so far with heavily supporting the batsmen in one match and then favoring the bowlers in another. I will go with KKR for this match as things look brighter for them with skipper Gambhir finally scoring with ease.

Prediction: KKR wins

Cricket Tadka IPL 7 Prediction: Match 21 to 30

The Indian Premiere League Season 7 has returned to India and so has the popular and successful ‘Cricket Tadka IPL Predictions’. Before we jump to do what we do the best, the predictions let me thank our readers and fans who sent several emails and contacted on twitter and facebook to enquire why Cricket Tadka is not providing the predictions for IPL-7. These enthusiastic messages forced us out of the slumber and we decided to restart the IPL Predictions.

After 20 matches in the UAE leg (which ended on 30th April) of the IPL, the Kings XI Punjab has been the biggest surprise. Thanks to some smart buys at the IPL auction, the team looks well balanced in all areas of the game and is the only to have remained undefeated so far. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are the other teams in the top 3. Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi all have 4 points each with 2 wins in their accounts. However, among all these teams Delhi’s performance has been below par. Mumbai, who won the tournament last time, are heading towards the ignominy of ending up at the bottom of table as they have lost all 5 matches so far.

IPL 2014 Prediction for Match No. 21 to 30

May 2: Match No. 21, CSK vs KKR, Ranchi, 8 PM

The JSCA International Stadium, Ranchi has a batsman friendly wicket. In the recent Vijay Hazare trophy, the matches played at this ground were all high scoring ones. Batting resource wise, CSK is placed in a much better position to win this match against a struggling KKR.

Prediction: CSK wins

May 3: Match No. 22, MI vs KXIP, Mumbai, 4 PM

This match is between the teams which are placed at the top and the bottom of the points table right now. While Punjab has won all its 5 matches Mumbai has lost all 5. So this match should not be difficult for the Punjab to win. However, if Mumbai slow bowlers bowl well, they have a good chance on the Wankhede pitch.

Prediction: KXIP wins

May 3: Match No. 23, DD vs RR, Delhi, 8 PM

After winning a tough match against KKR in a super over, Rajasthan has cleared some of the doubts about their match winning capabilities. Delhi should be an easier opponent for the Royals.

Prediction: RR wins

May 4: Match No. 24, RCB vs SRH, Bangalore, 8 PM

RCB becomes a totally different team altogether while playing in front of its local supporter at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. With Gayle who has an outstanding record at the ground returning to the fold, I will go with RCB for this match.

Prediction: RCB wins

May 5: Match No. 25, RR vs KKR, Ahmedabad, 4 PM

If the performance of the two teams so far is considered, RR has been successful to find the right balance for the team whereas Kolkata is still struggling to find the best starting XI as the big names are yet to fire. Last time the two team faced each other, the match tied twice and RR managed to win with boundary counts. The KKR side would be itching to avenge that loss, but at the home ground Rajasthan will be the team to beat

Prediction: RR wins

May 5: Match No. 26, DD vs CSK, Delhi, 8 PM

CSK is at the top of the IPL 7 points table after the shocking loss of KXIP. On the Feroze Shah Kotla pitch, Chennai’s slow bowlers will be very effective. I doubt if DD’s lacklustre side has the required batting talent to handle that. CSK will continue their dominance at the top of the points table

Prediction: CSK wins

May 6: Match No. 27, MI vs RCB, Mumbai, 8 PM

Mumbai’s IPL7 campaign has received a positive result with an emphatic win over KXIP in the last match. But the team still lacks the balance and consistency a defending champion should have. AB de Villiers managed to snatch a victory from the jaw of defeat for the RCB. While resource wise RCB has a better chance, I think the home advantage will play a major role for the MI

Prediction: MI wins

May 7: Match No. 28, DD vs KKR, Delhi, 4 PM

Both DD and KKR have under performed in the IPL7 so far. Both team lack the balance in the team to win matches consistently. However, on paper KKR looks stronger than the Delhi

Prediction: KKR wins

May 7: Match No. 29, KXIP vs CSK, Cuttack, 8 PM

CSK and KXIP have occupied the top two spots of the points table. So expect an exciting match at the Barabati stadium, Cuttack when these two teams meet. The cuttack pitch is a bit slow and hence helps the spinners a lot. CSK has some exciting spin options which makes them favorite for this match.

Prediction:CSK wins

May 8: Match No. 30, RR vs SRH, Ahmedabad, 8 PM

In a battle of equals, Rajasthan enjoys the home advantage. If Rajasthan can handle the Hyderabad bowling attack, then RR has a great chance to win this match

Prediction: RR wins

Cricket Tadka IPL 6 Predictions: Week 6 & 7

Before the predictions for the next week, here’s where the teams stand in the play off race at the end of week 5. Kolkata, Delhi and Pune are officially out of the play off contentions. Chennai is almost there with the top spot in the points table. Out of the rest 5, Kings XI Punjab has an outside chance of making into the top 4. So effectively, the competition is between 4 teams for 3 play off spots. Mumbai and Rajasthan are at no. 2 & 3 respectively with 16 points each from 12 games. RCB is placed fourth with 14 points in 12 matches whereas Hyderabad has 14 points in 11 matches and are placed at no. 5 on the basis of net run rate. Week 6 will be crucial for these teams as the competition gets closer from here.

Match No. 71, Pune Warriors vs Delhi Daredevils, Subroto Roy Sahara Stadium, Pune

In an inconsequential match, the two teams who are placed at the bottom of the points table will meet each other. The result of the match will decide which team will get the wooden spoon. Delhi’s team looks better than Pune in all departments and there’s no home advantage for Pune either. So, I will go with Delhi for the match. If Delhi wins the match, this will be second consecutive season for which Pune Warriors will finish last.

Match No. 72, Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad

This may be the last league match of IPL 6, but is very important to decide the play off line up. Hyderabad and Bangalore have same number of points. SO if Hyderabad wins this match, they will enter the play offs while RCB will be hopeful of Hyderabad’s loss. However, bad luck for RCB that the match ois at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad where the team SRH loves to play and they start as the favorite against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Match No. 54, Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad

Chennai are at the top of the points table and have lost only one away game in IPL 6 so far. But their batting failure in the last match at Wankhede was a wake up call. They will be playing the bowling powerhouse Sunrisers at Hyderabad where the pitch assists the bowlers. 2 piece of facts must show why Hyderabad has more chances of winning this match. First, Highest score on Hyderabad pitch in IPl 6 so far is 130. That shows how much bowlers enjoy bowling on this pitch. And secondly, Hyderabad is undefeated so far at home in 5 games of IPL 6.

Match No. 55, Kings XI Punjab vs Rajasthan Royals, PCA Stadium, Mohali

The magnificent win at home against Bangalore in the last match must have boosted the confidence of Kings XI. Miller’s performance was outstanding and almost makes everyone believe that Punjab can beat any team now. However, the easy catch of Miller that Kohli dropped contributed more to the KXIP win than Miller himself. On a flat deck, Rajasthan Royals’ bowling attack looks better which forces me to go with the Dravid led team

Match No. 57, Delhi Daredevils vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi

The Feroz Shah Kotla ground has produces mixed results for the Delhi Daredevils in IPL 6. In the match vs CSK they were all out for 83 whereas in another the chased down Mumbai’s 162 run target with three overs to spare. In some other matches, the team had to face defeat despite good performance. They have struggled against good bowling teams on the Kotla pitch and RCB, who recently failed to defend 190, is not known for their bowling attack. This may sound crazy, but I think Delhi has better chances of winning against RCB in this match.

Sunrisers have a team that depends too much on their bowling attack as their batting line up is weaker than most of the IPL teams. Kings XI, on the other hand, have a balanced team. The Mohali pitch has aided the batsmen in this tournament. So a team with stronger batting line up has the advantage and that is Kings XI Punjab.

However, the balance in the Team Chennai is a massive factor that contributes to Chennai’s success. This balance will come into play in the battle of equals.

Match No. 62, Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

Every match is crucial for the Hyderabad from now on for securing a place in the top 4. With a negative net run rate, Sunrisers’ play off chances are bleak unless they win a couple of matches with a huge margin. But they can not certainly expect to win big against the Mumbai at Wankhede. Mumbai holds 100% record at home and considering Hyderabad’s weak batting line up, it seems the record will not be broken any time soon.

Top 6 Bowlers of IPL 6 so far

T20 tests the skills and adaptability of the bowlers. It is a format arguably tilted towards the batsmen. Making the scenario worse is the flat decks, lightning quick out fields and short boundaries in India. This is where astuteness and the character of a bowler are tested. His variations and ability to restrain the scoring rate along with striking at important times comes into picture. IPL 6 has been unique from the other IPLs in the sense that teams chasing low totals have struggled, such matches have gone to the wire, which testifies the fact that bowlers are picking up the skills from experience to counter strike the boundary seekers. For spinners, it is the variations that help them curtail the run flow and pick up wickets at regular interval. Pace and length variation along with good slower ones is the recipe for quicker bowlers. Below are the bowlers who have impressed the most in IPL 6 so far:

Amit Mishra: This leggie from the bowling powerhouse Hyderabad Sunrisers is the most successful bowler in IPL history and this IPL is no different. Scalping his 3rd hat-trick in his IPL career in a game against PWI, Amit Mishra turned the match on his own. His googlies have troubled the best left handers in the business, the likes of Hussey and Raina. Along with wrong ones, he has a good flipper and an accurate straighter one. He has bagged 17 wickets from 11 matches at a healthy economy rate at 6.17. He also held the purple cap for a short period of time only to be taken away by other bowlers. Agreed that he has the support of bowlers like Dale Steyn and the Hyderabad home pitch, his consistent performance (his average is only 14.88) puts him ahead of other bowlers. He is still at no. 3 among the top wicket takers in IPL 6. Being the spinner with most number of wickets in the tournament so far, we rank him the best bowler of IPL 6 so far.

Sunil Narine: This esoteric spinner has done it at all levels and for all franchises. Sunil Narine has an impeccable economy rate of 5.68. His mystery cob has scalped 16 wickets making him 4th highest wicket taker of IPL 6 so far. He hit the jackpot in the 2012 IPL auction, attracting a bid of $700,000 from KKR and he is worth each of that penny. He chipped away with 4 wickets in the 1st match of the tournament against DD. Gambhir and the KKR management have shown immense confidence in him and used him intelligently during the matches to check the run flow and breaking partnerships.  With his amazing striking ability and a fantastic economy rate we can safely put the phrase “T20 is not for spinners” to rest. In last few matches, he has not bowled well which the reason why he narrowly missed the first spot on our Top 6 Bowlers list.

James Faulkner: With 17 wickets in 9 matches at a commanding economy rate of 6.17 runs per over which includes a demolishing spell against Hyderabad the other day in which his figures, currently the best, were 5/20, Faulkner is the find of this IPL. He was highly rated in Australia after he won his third consecutive Ricky Ponting Medal as Tasmania’s best player and consequently was roped in by RR in this season. Apart from moving the ball in both ways, he has a good slower one which is difficult to decipher. He can also be handy with the bat at lower down the order. His good performance in IPL has already been reaped after his call by national squad for the Ashes.

Vinay Kumar: Bagging an impressive 19 wickets from 12 outings, Vinay Kumar is the most successful Indian pacer in this year’s IPL. Considering the fact that his home ground is the flattest deck in India, he has a commendable economy rate at 8.11. He has developed a good wide Yorker and an effective leg cutter which have turned him into a good death bowler. At the start of the innings, he primarily depends on out swingers and bowls at a decent pace. He has held the purple cap and is well in the race to own it, come the end of the season.  He could not have asked for a better mentor than Venakatesh Prasad in RCB camp. A good finish to this year’s IPL and he could be in reckoning for a place in national squad. He is at no. 4 on our list.

Dwayne Bravo: This versatile cricketer from Trinidad stands at number one in wickets column. This has not been the best of IPLs for Bravo with the bat, but he has made it up for it with the white cherry. With 20 wickets from 12 matches, he has played a pivotal role in taking CSK to the top of the table. Slow bouncer, accurate Yorkers and good speed variations make him a brilliant death bowler. Trending on internet is just not his bowling skills but also his ever sharp and flowing dance moves. Even though he has more wickets that all other bowlers and currently the purple cap holder, he is at no. 5 in our list because of his high strike rate (8.02) and average (17.05).

R P Singh: People will remember him for his horrendous last ball no ball against CSK which costed them the match, but a deep insight would prove that his performances have been more than reasonable in this year’s IPL. The 2009 purple cap winner has 13 wickets in his kitty from the 10 matches at a considerable economy of 8.1. He made a culpable impact at the start of the IPL, picking 3 wicket haul 3 times in the 1st 6 innings. RCB boasts of an explosive batting line up, one of the reason because of which the good work done by the bowlers often go unnoticed. He along with V.Kumar have played their part in taking RCB to number two spot and would give CSK a run for their money for that coveted top spot. Once a premier opening bowler with the lethal incoming delivery to the right handers, he has to sustain his good work with the ball if he has any dreams to make the cut into the national squad.

IPL 6: Both Mumbai Crowd and Kohli overreacted

They had booed when Sachin was dismissed after crawling his way to a tardy 1 after batting for 34 long minutes. They didn’t spare Yuvraj when he did a Jonty to deny the MI a last ball victory. And now, it was Kohli’s turn.

The Mumbai crowd, a traditionally miffy one, apparently took offence when a Kohli direct hit had Rayudu scrambling for space to make it back in time to the bowler’s end. Pollard had hit the Vinay Kumar delivery to the cover region, and Kohli effected a direct hit. There was an ugly tangle involving Rayudu, and Kumar who was backing up the throw, and a grappling Rayudu failed to get his bat back in time. The collision was without a hint of doubt unintentional, as Vinay Kumar had his back towards Rayudu. Rayudu was, incidentally, yet to face a delivery.

Kohli went ahead with the appeal, and the television umpire had no hesitation in ruling Rayudu out. And this did not go down very well with the Mumbai crowd.

The dismissal was, as such, a fairly legitimate one. Kumar was in no position to be aware of the fact that he was obstructing Rayudu. But the fans were in no mood to relent, and started firing a barrage of jeers towards a cornered Kohli, and possibly even called him “cheater”.

The hapless star, a no-nonsense player who is all for giving-it-back-to-them, found himself in unfamiliar territory when he realised that he was not in a position to retort here, or fling out the middle finger.

Chants of ‘cheater, cheater’ reverberated throughout the stadium when he was out in the middle, and the crowd tried to get on his nerves throughout the match. And the jeering was at its loudest when Harsha Bhogle called him up for the post match presentation. Having put restraining orders on himself throughout the match, he now let his heart out.

Here is what he had to say:

“I don’t know what is wrong with people in this venue. It feels a bit weird because at the end of the day you play for India and you don’t come here to be hated.”

“It has happened to a few players in the past as well. I don’t know why they get so worked up during IPL. IPL is not the end of the world. They forget that the players they are booing for also play for their country.”

“It is only creating hatred among the players. When I come back and play for India, they are going to cheer for me. It doesn’t work that way.”

The Indian fans go more by emotions than by reason. Passion runs high in any match involving India, or any Indian cricketer for that matter. And if the fans blurt out their sentiments, one should, maybe, take it in his stride. And after all, if there is a concept of home teams and away teams in the IPL, fans are going to make life difficult for the visiting side. As is the case with international matches, the entailing hostility of an ‘away’ crowd is an associated sidebar.

Maybe it is because I am a staunch Kohli fan, but the booing on the part of the Mumbai crowd was a tad over the line. True, Kohli himself has anger management issues, and is all for settling scores rather than laugh things off. The incident in Sydney also made evident the fact that he is not bogged down by such crowd behaviour.

On the other hand, Kohli also didn’t handle the situation perfectly. By responding to an attention seeking crowd, Kohli ensured that he will be targeted again by the Wankhede crowd when he comes to play there next time. And the “I play for India” argument doesn’t go down well considering Kohli’s spat with his India team mate Gautam Gambhir the other day.

But he is only 24 and a long career ahead of him. Aggressive that he is, he is bound to feel miffed when he is booed in his own country. In fact, that is what anyone would have felt, though whether or not they would have talked about it is a different matter.

As far as the crowd goes, the craze for IPL is by no means comparable to the loyalty for the national side. IPL is, one would say, still a fledgling league and crowd loyalties are not so well-formed that warrants such booing of a national superstar. It was, in all probability, an attempt to get under Kohli’s skin that took an ugly turn. And one should remember, this was the crowd that once booed Sachin.

And the crowd made their ignorance of the rules of the game clear if they chanted ‘cheater’ even with an iota of conviction. The run-out, as pointed earlier, was a perfectly legitimate one and blame lies on Rayudu to have not looked where he was headed, for Vinay Kumar was in no position to know that he stood in the way.

What happened that night was unfortunate. It was an ignorant and only partly emotional reaction of a crowd that was whimsical to say the least, choosing to act on the spur of the moment. Kohli was correct in pointing out whatever he felt, for he has made it pretty evident that he lives and dies by playing for his nation. And if he gets back such response from his own countrymen, then he is bound to explode.

Match No. 43, Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad

While CSK has consolidated its position at the top, other teams like Mumbai and Hyderabad are fighting hard to ensure a place in the top 4. This will be the first time both teams will face each other. Hyderabad has won all three of their home matches in the tournament so far. The Hyderabad pitch has produced low scoring games. Both teams have potent bowling attack, so the pitch will suit both the teams. Hence, team with a better batting line up will be in advantage. That tilts the favor towards the Mumbai Indians.

It will be the second match at the newly built stadium in Raipur. The pitch at the stadium seemed batting friendly in the first match but also had something for the pacers. Delhi has not impressed with its performance this season. The defending champions, Kolkata have also disappointed with their lackluster performance. Match No. 47, Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals, Eden Gardens, Kolkata

The loss to the Delhi Daredevils must have shattered the confidence of the Kolkata who happens to be the IPL defending champion. The semi final chances of Team Kolkata are almost over as they need 5-6 wins in rest of the 6 matches. On the other hand, Rajasthan are in the reckoning for a spot among the top 4. Despite having no big names, the Jaipur based team has kept performing consistently as a result of which they are now at no. 3 on the points table. The Kolkata pitch is expected to behave like the Jaipur one, so Rajasthan will feel at home. Last time, both the teams met at Jaipur in IPL 6, Kolkata had failed to chase Rajasthan’s target of 145 and was all out for 125. Considering all the factors, I would go with Rajasthan.

But ultimately, performance on that day decides the winner. So, please understand that the predictions pick not the winner but the likely winner.

Coming to the match we have in our hand, Hyderabad’s chances look strong. For the match is in Hyderabad where the records of the home team is 4 wins in 4 matches. Though the match will be played at Mumbai’s home ground where MI holds 100% win record (4 win in 4 matches) in IPL 6, on team and individual performance basis CSK is way ahead of the home team. Another statistical view point about CSK is that the team has won all its 5 away matches in this season of IPL. Review: CSK’s official gaming app ‘Battle of Chepauk’

The Chennai based Nextwave Multimedia Pvt. Ltd. has launched the official gaming app “Battle of Chepauk” for the Chennai Super Kings. The app, which was launched by CSK captain MS Dhoni and coach Stephen Flemming, features CSK players and plays the ‘Whistle Podu’ song in the background. The game is now available on iOS and Android and will soon be launched for Windows Phone, Nokia Store, Facebook and Chrome app store. The company and the Chennai based franchise are hopeful to cash in the craze for IPL and CSK which is also one of the most popular IPL teams.

The app is free to download but for full the full version you have to purchase the game by paying Rs 170. As per latest blog post by the company, the app is among Top 6 free downloadable apps in Apple App Store.

I downloaded the app on my iPad and here’s the review of the app based on my experience.

Play with CSK players in your team
Play with CSK players in your team

The game ‘Battle of Chepauk’ has 3 modes: Super Over (free), Super Slog and Super Chase (in-app purchase). You can select CSK players in your team and play the match. In the Super Over mode, you have 18 challenges which you need to complete. The graphics of the game is good. The app runs smoothly. Playing the game is easy as it is like other regular cricket gaming app where you swipe to play shot. However, you can’t bowl in the game in any of the modes. This is something I didn’t like, from cricketing point of view of course.

In Super Chase mode, you will have to chase down a score in 5 overs. In Super slog mode, you can bat for 20 overs with your team and try to score as many runs as possible.

Positives:

*Graphics

*Very few glitches

*No lagging experienced

*Customization for CSK fans (team, stadium, anthem)

Negatives

*The CSK anthem plays continuously throughout the game which may be annoying

*No replays

*Commentary would have been a great addition

*No option to bowl

*If you are using the free app (Super Over mode), you will have to select 11 players for just one over which is pointless

*No option to select opposition

I noticed a few glitches which needs to be corrected in further updates.

1. Sometimes, you get caught at the boundary line at the same time it also shows the distance of the six hit.

2. Wide balls being considered as valid balls

Overall, the ‘Battle of Chepauk’ turns out to be a good game. But if you are a CSK fan, this is especially for you.

The app is available on iTunes Store, Google Play Store and Amazon Store.
